Part of “Toro de Force: The films of Guillermo del Toro,” celebrating THE SHAPE OF WATER director’s catalog of masterful, darkly magical fantasies on celluloid.
If you’re already a fan of Guillermo del Toro, then we don’t need to tell you that CRIMSON PEAK is stunning and inventive and incredibly atmospheric, because that’s what del Toro is all about. But if you’re not familiar with the visionary director or if you’ve just dismissed this movie as just another horror flick, listen up.
CRIMSON PEAK is, at its core, a Gothic romance, which makes it an ideal match for our Afternoon Tea series. So if you enjoy stories like REBECCA or JANE EYRE, you’ll fall in love with the moody darkness and electric intensity of this film, not to mention the sumptuous costumes and the exquisite set design.
The house itself is a character in CRIMSON PEAK, but it never overshadows the excellent cast. Mia Wasikowska is luminous, while Tom Hiddleston is mysterious and sexy as hell (Charlie Hunnam’s not too shabby either). But it’s Jessica Chastain who really steals the show. Just… watch out for that lady.
Part romance. Part ghost story, One beautiful slice of cinema. Come fall under the spell of CRIMSON PEAK at this spooky-delicious edition of Afternoon Tea.
