In association with the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, Chip Zdarsky will be here signing on Monday the 16th October from 6-7pm, and then discussing his work and career with Kieron Gillen from 7.30-9pm.
While of course many people’s first exposure to Chip (aka real Canadian person Steve Murray) has been via his artwork on Sex Criminals, he has been writing and drawing comics since the early 2000’s. And those comedy writing chops – honed in newspaper humour columnsand cartoons – have served him well on his other projects, including creator-owned sci-fi adventure Kaptara, Archie staple Jughead, and numerous Marvel books, including Howard the Duck and the recent back-to-basics Spidey book Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man (which is terrific, btw).
Kieron is the multi-award winning writer of – among others – Phonogram, The Wicked + The Divine, Darth Vader and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. One of the most influential British comics writers of the last decade, he’s always sure to have a fresh perspective. Between that, and his celebrated career in games journalism, he’s sure to take the interview in interesting, unexpected directions.
Chip will be here hot on the heels of his appearance at the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, one of the UK’s finest comics festivals. Nestled in the Lakes District town of Kendall, the festival hosts a dazzling array of talent, with guests this year including (along with Chip) Sergio Aragones, Jason, Jillian & Mariko Tamaki, Benoît Peeters, Stan Sakai & many, many more! More information on the festival, happening from October 13-15, can be found here.
Chip will be here signing from 6-7pm, and then – after a brief closure to set up the store – will be back from 7.30 – 9pm in conversation with none other than The Wicked + The Divine’s Kieron Gillen to discuss his work and career.
