Climate Cinema is proudly presented in partnership with The Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University. Each screening will feature a mini-lecture, and a post-film discussion.
TWISTER will always have the rare distinction of being the first blockbuster ever made about tornadoes. The always awesome Bill Paxton stars as Bill, a retired storm chaser who is sucked into one last ride with his old team. When his soon-to-be ex-wife Jo (Helen Hunt) shows him the completed tornado-analyzing device, Dorothy, that was based off his previous design from his days with the team. The more Bill tries to leave his old days of chasing tornadoes the harder he finds it to be, much to the dismay of his new girlfriend (Jami Gertz), a fertility specialist who has no tolerance for tornadoes. The film also stars a who’s who of character actors, including Cary Elwes, Jeremy Davies, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Alan Ruck, not to mention the Oscar-nominated eardrum-rattling sound and the still-impressive Oscar-nominated visual effects.
