Free outdoor movie: The Iron Giant

In this animated adaptation of Ted Hughes’ Cold War fable, a giant alien robot (Vin Diesel) crash-lands near the small town of Rockwell, Maine, in 1957. Exploring the area, a local 9-year-old boy, Hogarth, discovers the robot, and soon forms an unlikely friendship with him. When a paranoid government agent, Kent Mansley, becomes determined to destroy the robot, Hogarth and beatnik Dean McCoppin (Harry Connick Jr.) must do what they can to save the misunderstood machine.

This screening will take place in the Hive parking lot, on 24th street across from the New Parkway, in partnership with the Hive and Drake’s Dealership. The film starts when it’s sufficiently dark, likely around 8 or 8:30. Admission to all outdoor screenings are free. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, etc!

This is the New Parkway’s third consecutive summer of carrying on the free outdoor movie tradition, and one of Uptown Oakland’s favorite neighborhood events. Bring your friends, your date, your kids, and snacks, and come early to get a good seat!
