“Hey! Look! Listen! Look! Hey!”
Did you scour the earth looking for an NES classic last Christmas? Do you hum the Song of Storms while it’s raining? Have you settled a bet on the brutal curves of Rainbow Road? If so, grab your Power Glove and join us on Thursday, August 24th for the second edition of It’s Dangerous to Go Alone: A Nintendo Quiz!
We’re headed back to the Mushroom Kingdom for eight more rounds on the house that the plumber built and, this time, we’re opening things up and giving you what you really want. Anything ever released on a home, or portable, Nintendo console is fair game, but we’ll still be focusing on the games published by the big N. Pull out your back issues of Nintendo Power and get studying!
Our theme quizzes are $5 per player and will last about two and a half hours. No, finishing sooner will not make Samus take off her power suit. We’re accepting cash only, so leave your rupees at home. Winners will take home a cash prize to spend on a new SNES since you sold your original one at a garage sale when you were 13.
Our regular rules apply. Teams are limited to six players and leave your phones, and Game Genies, at home. They are totally off limits. No, we don’t care how many emulated classics you have on there. Cheaters will be forced to watch the Super Mario Bros. movie on loop for the rest of the night.
Your team is required to register for this quiz and you can do so here: http://bit.ly/ThemeQuizReg! Don’t see your city listed? Register under “Other” and we’ll consider bringing it your way!

THEMED QUIZ FAQs
Can people under 21 play?
It’s up to the bar, and each venue’s going to be a little different. Check with them directly before you make any plans.
Should I wear a costume?
YES! Some of our venues may have a costume contest if there’s enough participation, but that’s up to the venue and host.
How do you sign up? Where do you buy tickets?
You can register your team by filling out this form. This is NOT a reservation of seating, but it will ensure that we have ample space for all our teams. We anticipate our theme quizzes will sell out and we will turn away teams that did not pre-register.
How do you change your team name, number of players on the team or cancel a registration?
After you’ve registered, you can make changes to it by emailing us at email@example.com.
The quiz is sold out? What do I do now?
You can still register for the event for a stand-by spot! If there’s sufficient interest, or a team drops out, we’ll let you know! We make no promises that you’ll be able to get in, but if we can make it happen, you’ll be the first to know.
Is this a free quiz?
No, it’s $5 per person to play (bring cash!), and we’ll ask you to pay for everyone on your team before we give you quiz materials. If a team member is going to be late, we won’t ask you pay in advance, but if they fail to pay on arrival, your team will be DQ’d.
What’s the maximum/minimum players per team?
There is no minimum, but if you want to win, you should have a fully staffed squad. We’re happy to help you find teammates in advance on social media or on the day of. Team maximum is strictly six players, as always. Everyone sitting with you is considered part of your team.
Do spectators have to pay?
Yes. Yes, they do. Spectators generally have to pay for sporting events, right? This also goes for Geeks Who Drink employees that aren’t working at the event and the people they make love to.
Can my dad/girlfriend/friend sit at our table and not play?
No. Six people max on a team and all players must pay. If they’re sitting with you and not playing, we’re going to ask that they move.
Can you host this at BLANK bar in BLANK city?
Probably not. You can register for the quiz under “Other” and if we see a lot of interest, we’ll look into adding the quiz or bringing it to you sometime in the future.
How is the prize amount determined?
In most cases, the prize amount is 50% of the total take. Why not 100%? Because we have to cover our costs of producing and marketing these event quizzes. If the pot is sufficiently large, we’ll split it between first and second or first, second and third place.
Will BLANK TOPIC be covered?
Everything is fair game. Study hard. Apply yourself. And we never give clues.
How long will the quiz last?
Our regular quizzes run about 1.5-2 hours, but themed quizzes require a bit more heavy lifting in terms of logistics, scoring and extra stuff we may have planned. Average is about 2 1/2 hours.
I’d like to help promote the quiz/talk to you on my podcast/contribute some bonus prizes.
Great! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll see about making that happen.
