TNT 105: MONSTER HIGH (1989)
dir. Rudiger Poe
Monster High is an unspeakable abomination of a “campy” horror comedy that screams 1989. It imagines a normal high school student, Norm Median (get ready for more of that kind of thing, oof), as he’s faced not only with the challenge of trying to date the French (?) foreign exchange student but also playing a basketball game to save planet Earth from a team of demon zombie creatures lead by Armageddon himself.
This film is simply stupid. A quick perusal of IMDB will show you that virtually everyone in this film did nothing else related to film-making. It is crammed full of jokes that fall flat but the production values allow for some really fun and hokey effects. This is the kind of film that makes you wonder, “who had the rich uncle?” And man are we glad they did, because this gem of jaw-dropping proportions of mediocrity is truly one-of-a-kind. In the world of “so-bad-it’s-good”, this one is in a league of its own.
